All Aboard

We took the opportunity, having seen the Airshow a number of times, to visit the All Aboard Festival in Southampton. This is an amazing neighbourhood event in St Denys and on the River Itchen. Several individual events were held in people’s gardens and on the potoons on the river behind.

The music was varied and excellent, Hurdy Gurdy folk, to clever electric ukelele songs to folk rock. In between was apple pie and cream, blueberry cake and plenty of drink. Further along there was an more than interesting art exhibition at the St denys Boat Club. Boats sailed up and down with more music.

Visitors came in kayaks, rowing boats and canoes of all sorts of vintages and apparent sea-worthiness. This is the sort of festival I love, somewhere between village fete and a Music Fest. I guess, this is all possible because there is a community joined together by proximity to the River and it made use of the real talent hidden away in this secret place. Thanks to Lou and family who organised at no 278. Can’t wait to come back next year.
